Implementation of the programme ‘Economics of Social Security’ in a distance format within the framework of the ERASMUS+ KA2 DEFEP project

Uman National University of Horticulture continues to expand the opportunities for higher education students by participating in the international ERASMUS+ KA2 DEFEP project (‘Distance education for future: best EU practices in response to the requests of modern higher education seekers and labour market’).

Within the framework of this project, the educational programme “Economics of Social Security” in the field 232 “Social Security” at the second (Master) level of higher education is successfully implemented on a distance learning basis. The aim of the programme is to train highly qualified specialists who are able to respond to modern challenges in the social and economic sphere using innovative approaches and methods of distance education.

During the recent seminar, the students got acquainted with the University’s information platforms, such as ACS, Moodle and the University Repository, which ensure the convenience and accessibility of distance learning. The students had the opportunity to talk to the guarantor of the educational programme and the supervisor of the academic group, who gave detailed recommendations on the organisation of the training and answered the students’ questions. Particular attention was paid to the issues of academic integrity, its principles and the documents governing this important aspect of the educational process. The ERASMUS+ KA2 DEFEP project continues to support the implementation of best practices in distance education, contributing to the development of modern competences in students necessary for their successful professional activities.

UNUS discusses enrollment for distance learning under the DEFEP project and preparations for the opening of a new laboratory

The Uman National University of Horticulture hosted a regular meeting of the working group of the Erasmus+ DEFEP project implementers, during which key issues related to the project implementation and the results of the 2024-2025 academic year admission campaign were discussed. The main attention was paid to the peculiarities of enrollment in the distance learning program in the specialty 232 “Social Security”.

The meeting participants also reviewed plans for the next work package of the project. They also planned to open a distance education laboratory. The equipment for this laboratory was purchased with project funds, which will provide high-quality technical equipment to support distance learning.

In addition, a series of internal seminars was planned for teachers who teach classes in the Social Security program and for students studying in distance learning. The seminars will focus on the MOODLE platform and academic integrity, which will help improve the quality of the educational process and the effective interaction of participants in the educational process in the context of distance learning.

Thanks to close cooperation within the framework of the Erasmus+ DEFEP project, the university continues to improve its infrastructure and educational methods, making education more accessible and modern for its students.

Distance learning for masters of specialty 232 «Social Security» has started at UNUS

Uman National University of Horticulture continues to strengthen its position as a leading participant in international educational initiatives by actively implementing the ERASMUS+KA2 DEFEP project “Distance education for future: best EU practices in response to the requests of modern higher education seekers and labor market”. This project is aimed at implementing sustainable and effective distance learning as a separate form of education in the Eastern Partnership countries, including Ukraine and Moldova.

The DEFEP project aims to create a modern system of distance education in higher education institutions that will not only respond to future challenges related to technological transformations of the labor market and changes in the behavioral and ideological priorities of younger generations, but also contribute to the development of professional competencies and so-called “soft skills” of students in accordance with the needs of the labor market. An important aspect of the project is also to ensure the principle of barrier-free education, create a safe educational environment and improve the quality of education in today’s realities.

One of the important steps within the project was the admission campaign and enrollment of 13 students in the distance learning program “Social Security Economics” in the specialty 232 “Social Security” of the second (master’s) level of higher education. This program is aimed at training highly qualified specialists who are able to respond to modern challenges in the social and economic sphere using innovative approaches and methods of distance learning.

The implementation of the DEFEP project will allow the university not only to improve the quality of education but also to expand opportunities for students by providing them with access to high-level educational content adapted to modern requirements. In addition, participation in the project will help to improve the existing system of distance education at the university by attracting European experience and best practices. The participation of Uman National University of Horticulture in the Erasmus+ DEFEP project is a confident step towards creating a competitive and flexible education system that meets the requirements of today and prepares students for a successful career in the modern labor market.

UNUS teachers successfully completed international advanced training within the framework of the Erasmus+ DEFEP project

From August 1 to 21, teachers of Uman National University of Horticulture took part in an international advanced training program within the DEFEP project “Distance Education for Future: best EU practices in response to the requests of modern higher education seekers and labor market”. The program participants had the opportunity to improve their skills in university management, distance education teaching methodology, and student support.

The program covered the following key areas:

– University management: developed skills in effective management of educational institutions, which is important for increasing the productivity of universities in today’s environment.

– Teaching Methodology for Distance Education: provided in-depth training in online learning methods that will help improve the quality of distance education.

– Tutoring and student support: aimed at improving strategies for supporting students in online programs, which will contribute to better learning and academic success.

The training took place in two formats: synchronous and asynchronous. The asynchronous part, hosted on the Moodle platform of the Moldovan State University, included presentations, learning materials, and assessments. Participants also had the opportunity to engage in live discussions via Zoom.

All teachers who successfully completed the training modules and passed the assessment received certificates confirming their professional development.

The university staff expresses its gratitude to the organizers of the DEFEP project for their contribution to the improvement of educational processes and professional development of UNUS teachers.

A laboratory for distance learning was opened at the Faculty of Economics and Entrepreneurship of UNUS as part of the DEFEP project.

Uman National University of Horticulture continues to actively implement innovations in the educational process. Within the framework of the international ERASMUS+ DEFEP project “Distance Education of the Future: EU Best Practices in Response to the Demands of Modern Higher Education and Labour Market’, a Distance Education Laboratory was opened at the Faculty of Economics and Entrepreneurship. This laboratory is designed to support the educational process in a distance form, using modern technologies and platforms to organise effective learning.

The main objective of the laboratory is to provide a high level of distance education in line with the needs of the modern labour market and students who want to receive quality education in a convenient format. The use of platforms such as Moodle allows for an interactive educational process, enabling teachers and students to interact effectively during classes.

Distance learning is growing in popularity and the DEFEP project aims to improve teaching and learning methods and increase the availability of knowledge regardless of the physical location of students. In addition, the laboratory is a platform for implementing European best practices in education, which will not only improve the level of education, but also strengthen partnerships with foreign educational institutions.

DEFEP working group meeting: summary of results and plans for the future

Uman National University of Horticulture hosted a meeting of the DEFEP working group with Olena Filimonova, project coordinator from Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University. The meeting summarised the results of the project’s tasks, including sociological research and analysis of European practices in the field of distance education. The DEFEP team developed regulations for the regulation of distance education, which became the basis for the internal regulations of the partner universities. The participants discussed the research results presented in the monograph and reports and considered further steps to improve the methodology of distance education, etc.

They also discussed the establishment of distance learning laboratories, where modern equipment and software have already been purchased. At the same time, meetings are held with employers and stakeholders, which will help to update educational programmes and curricula for more effective training of students. The results of the project are actively discussed at scientific conferences and round tables, ensuring a constant exchange of experience and knowledge between all project participants.

The importance of further cooperation between the partner universities within the project was also emphasised for the successful implementation of the objectives.

A working meeting on distance education at Uman National University of Horticulture

A working meeting on distance education at Uman National University of Horticulture was recently held under the chairmanship of the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Doctor of Economics, Professor Mykhailo MALYOVANYI. The meeting’s agenda encompassed pivotal matters pertaining to the prospective advancement of distance education at the university. Of particular note was the initiation of a pilot program for a Master’s degree program, “Economics of Social Security,” which is designed for distance learning. The outcomes of the 2024 admissions campaign, which initiated the implementation of this pioneering educational program, were presented and analyzed.

The technical aspects pertaining to the functionality of the distance education laboratory, which was furnished with the most recent equipment to guarantee superior-quality online learning, were likewise addressed. Significant emphasis was placed on the content and active utilization of electronic platforms for distance education, such as Moodle, to guarantee effective access to educational materials for students.

One of the pivotal topics was the debate surrounding the establishment of a system for monitoring and evaluating the quality of distance learning. Preparations have commenced for a stakeholder survey with the objective of enhancing the quality of educational services. Proposals were put forth to facilitate the collection of feedback from students, educators, and employers to assess the efficacy of training programs and their alignment with the labor market. The meeting concluded with a discussion of the strategy for the further advancement of distance education at the university.
